There’s no doubt about it, storytelling in marketing is hot right now. The great thing about stories is that they tend to get re-told, whether it be by a share on social media or good old-fashioned word of mouth.
Good stories can compel people to change the way they feel, think, act and behave so do your research first. The trick is to make sure you are telling tales that your customers will want to hear!
For example, in the food and agribusiness space provenance is a buzz word. A while ago I was fortunate to hear Brodee Myers-Cooke, Editor-in-chief of taste.com.au share some of the latest research in this area and the key take away was that when it comes to food and drink consumers are speaking with their feet. They want to know where their food comes from, who made it, how it was grown and what’s in it. They want to know the ‘why’. So, if you are a producer, a foodie or restaurateur you would be mad not hop on the band wagon and shout it from the rooftops. Your customers want to know! Weave your magic.
‘Storytelling is not intended to be a “selling” tool; it’s a method of building strong relationships with your customers and a thriving community of loyalists over time. Your story identifies what your passions are and serves as the foundation for all your future content developments.’ – The Content Marketing Institute
Every business has as a story. People love to hear about your ‘why’. Add a human touch to your marketing through storytelling. We all like to buy from people we feel we know, connect with and trust.
