Recently a buddy said to me… ‘you have such interesting friends.’ I think she is right - I do! I love people and I think if there is a common thread among the humans I have collected throughout my life it is that most of them are leaders or trailblazers, but in totally different ways. Some do it quietly and others are more overt, but they are all creating impact. They are thought leaders.
Among the people I am fortunate enough to call my friends are corporate leaders, industrial relations advocates, marketing gurus, entrepreneurs, artists, designers, educators, real estate agents and fundraisers. Most of them are at the top of their game now and I have found it fascinating to watch them get there. How did they do it? At a guess there are a few ingredients - tenacity, passion, innovation, and vision and most definitely the ability to influence others to act or think differently.
Thought leadership is a term that is bandied around a lot these days. But what does it mean? Looking at my friends, I would say it is their ability to inspire others that sets them apart. They certainly motivate me to be better. This superpower also gives them credibility. If someone was asking me to refer them to an expert, I would be comfortable in directing them to anyone in this group of people.
